How to choose your down comforter?

Here you will find everything you need to know when selecting and comparing down comforters. To check out why Hungarian down is one of the best in the world please click here.

1. What is Fill Power?
2. What is Fill Weight?
3. What is Thread count?
4. What is Baffle Box Construction?
5. How can a comforter be Hypoallergenic?

1. Fill Power

Fill Power is one of the main quality determinants of down. High fill power down is made of large, strong clusters from mature geese which have the power to fill more space with fewer ounces. In layman's terms this means how fluffy-puffy is the fill. Higher fill power means your down comforter will last longer. A good range for a down comforter is 550 to 600 cubic inches. Fill power of 650 and higher is considered excellent. The higher the fill power, the better the down will insulate, and there is less chance for "cold spots"- areas in a comforter where there is no down. All of our comforters are filled with the finest quality 700+ Fill Power Hungarian down.

2. Fill Weight

Fill weight is the amount of down in an item. The amount of down put in a comforter determines the type of warmth the comforter will provide. We manufacture two different warmth levels: Light weight and Regular weight comforters. Our Regular weight Hungarian comforters will give you outstanding warmth all year long!

3. Thread Count

Thread count is the number of threads that are contained in one square inch of fabric. Higher thread counts in a comforter's fabric mean it is lighter and softer. The lightness also helps the fill to " loft"- or "puff up" in layman's terms. A down comforter which is covered with a 100% cotton fabric of more than 350 thread count is considered to be excellent and 100% downproof. The higher the thread count, the tighter the weave, and the more "downproof" (minimal to no leakage) the comforter will be. However, please bear in mind that a very high thread count cover is not necessarily important since it can dramatically increase the cost of your comforter and due to the fact that you can use a duvet cover on your comforter you may be paying for something you really don't need.

4. Baffle Box Construction

Baffle box/stich construction is when fabric "walls" are sewn between the top and bottom cover. They keep the down from shifting while allowing it to fully loft. Fluffy, full down insulates you better. Baffled constructions typically cost more than other type of constructions i.e. karo stitch constructions which allow the down to shift. All of our best selling comforters have a baffle box construction.

5. How can a comforter be Hypoallergenic?

We use only premium white goose down in our comforters and pillows. This means that the down is thoroughly cleaned freeing it from dust and other allergens.

Please keep in mind that the higher the quality of the down the longer it will last and the more comfort it will give you.
